Floating Shelves and Votive Candleholders Over The Mounted TV

So in my last post I talked about filling the gap between my mounted TV and the TV stand, but what about the space between the TV and the ceiling? I hated that that blank space was there and wanted to fill it with something. I could have easily placed a plaque up there but I didn't find anything I liked the day I went shopping. Besides, I was shopping at my second home, Lowes!

I found this nice wall mounted shelf and knew that I wanted to put pictures on it. The frames were silver so they fit into my color scheme quit well. I don't have that many framed pictures so I needed something to go between them. I found this Zen Candle Holder and it was just the right balance of black and red.

The candle holder cost me $19.95 and the shelf cost about $25. If you notice, the shelf seems to float above the TV. This is what you would call a hidden bracket shelf.

Wrought Iron Candleholders and Silk Flowers Under the Wall Mounted TV

Ok, so you buy a flat screen and decide to mount it on the wall. You have your cable box, DVD/Blu-Ray players, video game consoles, Audio Tuner, and all this "stuff" that connects to the TV so you can't get rid of your TV stand. I personally decided not to move the outlet behind the TV and I didn't want any holes in the wall to run the HDMI cable behind it so I got stuck with black cords hanging down. Here is my fix!

First thing's first, cover up those black cords. Go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a cord cover. They come in all different sizes and are pretty cheap. I bought a white plastic one. now I don't know if you noticed, but my walls are not exactly white. These cord covers are paintable! The one I have is wide so it has a back plate that is mounted on the wall. The cover is painted the same color of my wall and allowed to dry. Once dry, the cover just snaps on, over the back plate. No more black cords!

While this looks MUCH better, the wall still looks like I have a pipe running down it. The top of my TV stand is empty now so I have to put somthing up there anyways. Here I have two tall wrought iron scrollwork candleholders and red silk orchids in a red triangular vase. With the same type pillar candles used as over the fireplace this is just tall enough to hide the cord cover. The candle holders come as a pair (one short, one tall) so I had to by two pair at $21.95 each. Not to worry, I had a plan for the short ones too! The silk orchids have since been discontinued, but it cost me $14.95 and is worth every penny. I absolutely LOVE orchids and red is the accent color for my living/dining room space so it couldn't be more perfect for me.

Go on, speak your mind. I want to hear from you!

Mosaic Glass Candle Sconces & Gold Wall Art Over The Headboard

I wanted to do something different for my bedroom so I went for a dirty mint green color on the walls. I already had the furniture when I moved so I wanted to compliment it so i went for thee gold undertones.

These taper candle sconces have since been discontinued, but I really stepped into a goldmine when I found them. I believe they only cost $19.95. The fruit wall art was from what you will all learn to be one of my favorite places to shop, Bed Bath and Beyond. These amber mosaic glass sconces were just perfect next to the art. They are heavy too. It's a good thing that it is all secured to the wall, because it might fall off and hit me in the head while I sleep!

What do you think, pretty huh?

Candle Sconces & Wall Art Create Love Over The Mantle

I like to call this look "Believe In Love" because red roses remind me of being in love and I'm in love with having the constant reminder!

The "BELIEVE"figurine, red rose wall art, and red pillar candles came from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. The rose art only cost me $20 and the "BELIEVE" figurine, I think, cost less than $10. The scrollwork candle sconces come in pairs, candles not included, and only cost $19.95. The red candles came in a pack of 3 for maybe $7. The only alteration needed was adding the hanging hardware on the back of the art.

I've always wanted a mantle, and when I finally got one, I didn't know what to do with it. It took some searching for the right wall art. Actually, a good friend of mine was shopping with me and she found it. I knew right away that it belonged above the mantle. It was perfect!

Let me know what you think!

Welcome to the Blog!

I just want to say how excited about this new blog I am! I bought my house almost 2 years ago and I have been working really hard to turn it a dwelling that is completely me. I have painted almost every internal wall and ceiling, changes light fixtures, and decorated the place to my on taste. I didn't actually have a budget, but I like what I like (I get my somewhat expensive taste from my mother) and I save a ton of cash by doing a lot of the work myself. Now that I've been here a while I'm making more cost cautious choices with my decor and still doing most of the work. I hope this blog to be my personal decorating journal as well as a place for all who enjoy this kind of thing to share their ideas, triumphs, and lessons learned.

I welcome you all!
